What It Is
The wallpaper image is the first thing that greets you when you turn on your Apple iPhone or iPod Touch, and creating your own wallpaper is one of the simplest and most gratifying ways to personalize those devices.
Apple has made changing wallpapers on these devices incredibly easy. Any compatible photo or graphic that you've uploaded to your device can handily be made into wallpaper with just a few clicks.
So why bother with something like PaperMill? Dedicated wallpaper images. Because a dedicated wallpaper is only 320x480 it takes up far less of your precious storage space than a full-sized photo. PaperMill also allows you to preview your wallpaper on a larger screen before moving it to your iPhone or iPod Touch.
In short, the PaperMill is an easy-to-use wallpaper creation tool [no previous graphics skills are required] that allows you to quickly flip, rotate, scale, position, and preview your image on your computer monitor. Then, when you're satisfied with your creation, you can download and install it on your device via iTunes or, you can e-mail it directly to your iPhone [or to a friend or anyone else
] from within the PaperMill.
The PaperMill accepts virtually any JPEG or PNG image up to 5MB in size. Regardless of input size, your final final wallpaper will be generated at 320x480 pixels -- the exact screen dimensions of the iPhone and iPod Touch. Wallpapers can then be downloaded and/or emailed directly back to you [or anyone you choose]. Note that, even if you upload a JPEG image, the final image is generated in PNG format (JPEGS are automatically converted to PNG within the PaperMill). PNG is the preferred format for these devices and does not suffer the visible compression artifacts common to many JPEGs.
Take care when selecting an image for uploading as the PaperMill cannot repair poor quality images. If you upload a high-quality image, the output will also be of high quality. Conversely, if you upload an image or poor quality the output will also be of poor quality.
